How to Make the HG553/HG556 Router Compatible with All Internet Service Providers?

Finally! I Discovered How to Make HG553/HG556 Routers Work with All ISPs

After extensive research and experimentation, I finally discovered a way to make all HG553/HG556 routers — including those from Vodafone, EchoLife, and Huawei — compatible with every internet service provider.

This router is a hidden gem. A friend of mine picked one up from a scrap market in Morocco for just 10 dirhams, which is insanely cheap considering the features it offers. The router supports advanced technologies like 3G connectivity and DLNA, and its Wi-Fi range is surprisingly strong even without an external antenna. Its sleek and modern design also makes it visually appealing.

All these advantages have made this router a favorite among users. However, the major downside was its lack of compatibility with Moroccan networks — until now!

After countless trials, flashing firmware, and testing different configurations, I’ve finally managed to unlock the router and make it work flawlessly with Maroc Telecom and other local ISPs.

This guide is not limited to making the router work with just one specific network — it makes the HG553/HG556 router compatible with all networks worldwide.
All you have to do is follow the steps carefully, and if you have any questions or face any issues, feel free to ask in the comments section below.

Also, I encourage my brothers and sisters in other Arab countries to share the connection settings of their local internet providers (like VPI, VCI, and connection type) so that others can configure their routers faster and more easily.

Please don’t forget to like and share this exclusive tutorial with your friends. Much love to all of you! ❤️

🛠️ Step 1: Access Network Settings

  1. Open your Network Settings

  2. Click on Change adapter settings

  3. Right-click on Ethernet and choose Properties

  4. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties

  5. Change the settings as shown in the image, then click OK and Yes

🔌 Step 2: Connect the Router

  1. Connect the router to your PC using a LAN cable

  2. Turn on the router and wait for it to fully boot

  3. Open your browser and go to:

192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1
  1. Hit Enter and a login page will appear

  2. Enter the credentials:

makefile
Username: vodafone Password: vodafone
  1. Click Log in

📦 Step 3: Backup & Configuration

  1. Once logged in, you’ll notice there are no DSL settings

  2. To download a backup of the settings, type the following into your browser next to the router’s IP address:

backupsettings.conf
  1. Press Enter to download the backup file

  2. Open the file using Notepad++ (highly recommended for easy reading)

  3. Search for the term sys password — the admin password will be next to it. Save that password.

🔐 Step 4: Access Advanced Admin Settings

  1. Open a new Incognito Window in Chrome

  2. Enter the router’s IP address again

  3. Log in using:

vbnet

Username: admin Password: (from the backup file)
  1. If the Vodafone logo disappears, it means you’re now in full admin mode

🌐 Step 5: Configure the Connection

  1. Go to Advanced Setup > WAN

  2. Choose ADSL Uplink > click Next

  3. Click Add

  4. Enter the values:

makefile
VPI: 8 VCI: 35
  1. Click Next

  2. Choose PPPoE (PPP over Ethernet) > click Next

  3. Enter your ISP credentials:

pgsql

PPP Username: (from your DSL contract) PPP Password: (your password) PPPoE Service Name: leave blank Authentication Method: leave it as AUTO
  1. Click Next twice

  2. Click Save

  3. When prompted, click Save & Reboot, then OK, and wait for the router to restart

✅ Final Step: Test Your Connection

Now try opening any website — the internet should now work properly!

📌 For Users in Other Arab Countries:

You only need to find out the correct VPI, VCI, and connection type values used by your local provider, then follow the same steps as shown above.
